Itching to Garden Giveaway
I know it's barely February but my hands long to play in the dirt, I miss my herbs! With spring only 47 days away, we are planning our gardens, dreaming big! I want more herb gardens, even beds, tucked in here and there, just for me! My favorite herbs and must haves are lavender and rosemary, these scents are magical. I always have a bundle hanging in the kitchen to dry. But, I need more. I want to get back into making salves and learn to make soaps. Oh, how I'd love to have a herb farm, I'd be in heaven!
So since it's iced over outside and bitter cold, I thought I'd host my first giveaway of the year and it's all about herbs! All you got to do, other than being a herbie too, is leave me a comment on this post only and tell me what is your favorite herb and why. I'll leave this up for 10 days, so you have till Feb. 12th. The giftie will be a surprise but I can promise you it's herb themed! :) Our gardening days are getting closer, think spring!

ReplyDeleteI love lavender and basil. Both smell wonderful! I can't wait for spring. And planting season. I miss color from flowers.
ReplyDeleteI love garlic, it goes on nearly everything we cook. I also love the look and smell of fresh dill.
ReplyDeleteFor cooking, I love sage. I have thought about growing some lavender for making lotions and aromatherapy packs though.
ReplyDeleteI grow herbs, too, and my favorite is basil. I go outside and just pick the leaves and eat them!
ReplyDeleteI never have any left to dry or anything!
MMMmmmmm fresh herbs are way better then dried and bottled!

I would rather play in the dirt then play in the snow!
Come one spring.....
Smiles, Dolly
I am itching to dig in the dirt too. I love hers....rosemary, sage, basil, any of the mints. I always do a huge round pot of several different ones. I also mix rosemary in my flowerings pots. It always looks so nice and smells so good. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteRosemary is my favorite. Why? Because I love to run my hands across the stems and take in the smell. I have had one rosemary plant for 18 years. Just one. Kept it alive in drought, blazing sun and freezes. My husband would like me to dig it up, but no way. Herbs are good for the soul, not just the tummy.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love rosemary. I'd never had it before; but, one of the ladies in my husband's master gardener's group gave him some branches or twigs or whatever they're called.
ReplyDeleteOh my, the fragrance! And nothing flavors chicken soup better!
I am so excited because I can have a garden this year (worked too long hours before I retired last September)! So I'm just bursting with ideas and plans and saving every scrap for composting! Literally...every scrap...of FABRIC because I read you can compost natural fiber fabrics if they are small. I love love love PARSLEY the best and always snitch the parsley off people's plates at restaurants because they never eat it. Please enter me in your giveaway :-)
ReplyDeleteI know some people hate it but I LOVE cilantro! It's not terribly versatile, it's VERY apparent and doesn't blend in well like rosemary or basil, but in the summertime, sometimes you just can't beat some tomatoes and onions and cilantro for dippin chips! Yum!
ReplyDeletejust found you skipping around the blogosphere...lavender love the smell of it..havn't been able to sucessfully grow it. We did garlic last fall and had a very nice harvest...also a fan of cilantro. I don't know too much about all the herbs...but I can stop here and I will learn...
ReplyDeleteI love lavender and have several different kinds in my herb garden. I also love all the different flavored thymes, lemon, orange, etc. They make lovely teas and smell so good when you pick them. My lavender plant has done so well this last year that it has rooted several babies that I am going to be replanting in other places this year. Lavender is one thing I can grow, dont know why. Thanks for having the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is dill! I love the fresh taste it adds to salads, chicken, eggs, tomatoes, potatoes, and more. Thanks for the giveaway! :)
ReplyDeleteSo hard to pick just one. I love Rosemary and even make tea from it...sort of piney tasting. Thyme is easy to grow and versatile. Peppermint makes refreshing iced tea on a hot summer's day. Catnip I use to make a soothing tea that helps me sleep. Garlic, I grow lots of make garlic braids. Lavender is my favorite because of the scent and its beauty lifts my spirits.
ReplyDeleteI love lavender and basil...lavender because it is so sweet looking and smells wonderful...Basil because I love to cook with I use it in everything...
ReplyDeleteHave a Blessed day

ReplyDeleteLavendar! The smell is wonderful! I sure enjoy addid garlic to many of my dishes. Not much though, just a little bit for a hint of flavor.
ReplyDeleteHmm. I wonder if I could grow these things inside, since I don't have a garden. Or maybe I could hire my mom to grow them in her garden. :)

ReplyDeleteI am so ready to get my hands dirty too!
I love them all. I would like some lavender for soap making.

My favorite herb is thyme. You can use it in anything. A little bit added to any recipe makes it even better. It seems to blend the flavors. You can even use it in desserts. I especially like lemon thyme but I grow several kinds just to be sure to have a great supply.
ReplyDeleteI'd say my most used is Basil... I use it in cooking, soaps and more.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite smelling herb is lemon sage...so yummy smelling on my back patio!!
