  3. My parents always made sure that my 2 sisters and I had fabulous birthdays. But my 50th surprise was the best. We had a huge costume party planned (my bday is Oct 29). About an hour into the party an unknown person all dressed in red entered. No one could figure out who it was. When unmasked, it turned out to be my dad that came 1300 miles up from FL to spend my 50th with me. No one except for 3 of his friends knew he was coming! It was the best present I have ever got!!!

  4. Back in the mid 90's I had worked for the phone company for almost 25 years, and when my office was closing, many of us were given the option of early retirement with full 30 year benefits. Because of previous maternity leave, I would have missed the date I could qualify by 4 days and was going to have to transfer out to another officeand wait for the next company offer. Instead, my wonderful office manager asked the district if the whole place could "exist on paper" for that amount of time so I would make the cutoff date! They agreed, and on my 45th birthday, I officially retired! Couldn't have gotten a much better birthday gift than that for this old gal!

I would love to be in your drawing! thanks!

Let's see....my most favorite birthday gift....well...it probably would have been when I was 16....I got a 1967 VW beetle! It was black and in need of repairs when I got it...but my dad spruced it up for me...got it running well...new radio..and painted it red! I would have to say that was my fave gift I have gotten!!! :)

  8. I honestly cannot remember any gifts in the past that really stand out except for maybe this past November when I turned 48. My sister brought supper and invited several of our family members to help celebrate. She also gave me a gift of 48 different colored balloons. That is a lot of balloons....[Our family get togethers have been strained lately because we are missing an important member of our family; my dad. He had passed away peacefully in his sleep on Father's Day the year before. We have tried to have a good time but it is hard to do so because we miss him terribly]....Later that evening as my party was ending, I grabbed several of the balloons and took them outside and released them into the air. As they were floating up into the sky, I looked up and told my dad I was sharing them with him. Then I closed my eyes and said a prayer and thanked God for letting my dad die peacefully, at home, in his own bed. And I felt much better. Upon seeing what I had done, everyone went back inside and got balloons and released them. All 48 balloons were released. It was beautiful. Afterwards, everyone said they really enjoyed doing that and we decided that from now on when we have a family celebration, we will release balloons in rememberance of my dad. I know this is not a fun one to read but it is my best. But I do wish you a happy and fun birthday on the 22nd.

    Blessings,
    Elizabeth

  9. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

    Please, please enter me...

The best Birthday gift I ever got was a gold Claddagh ring for my
18th Birthday from my parents. I still wear it till this day, and I thank God that they are both still here to see that I do.

The Claddagh's distinctive design features two hands clasping a heart, and usually surmounted by a crown. The elements of this symbol are often said to correspond to the qualities of love (the heart), friendship (the hands), and loyalty (the crown). The expression which was associated with these symbols in the giving of the ring was: "With my two hands I give you my heart, and crown it with my love."

The way that a Claddagh ring is worn on the hand is usually intended to convey the wearer's romantic availability, or lack thereof. The ring is worn on the right hand with the heart facing outward to show that the wearer is not romantically linked but is looking for love. When turned inwards, it is shown that the wearer is in a relationship, or their heart has been "captured". If worn on the left hand with the heart facing outward shows the wearer is engaged; turned inward indicates the wearer is married.[

  11. Sue, you are just too sweet for words to have a giveaway on your own birthday. How lovely!

My best birthday gift was from my parents, both gone now, when I moved into my apartment and they gave me a sofa bed. Since my birthday and Christmas are so close together it was for both. My Mom made me laugh when she said I could only sit on half of it for my birthday and then sit on the other half for Christmas. She was such a kidder. :) But she was a kind hearted soul like you. xxoo

  12. An early happy b'day, Sue!!

It wasn't really a birthday present, because it is for the whole family. We bought the condo at the lake, during my birthday week, in 2003. The family teases me about it being my 60th birthday present! It was one of my best,:-), so I'm adding it here.

    Have a great weekend!!

  13. My best gift ever was from my bf. He knows I love books. But everyone knows its hard to buy those for a book lover unless they tell you specifically which ones. So my bf gave me a gift certificate to Amazon. It took me a yr and a half to use it up but I got all the books I wanted. Amazon is good cuz they have used books cheap too so sometimes I bought new and sometimes I bought used trying to stretch out the gift. I made my wish list too and every now and then would look thru it and order some. It was so nice not having to feel guilty buying so many books. And it was wonderful being able to still be frugal at times buying used books really cheap. Told my bf that was the best gift ever! He said "I rule!!!" I laughed and said yes you do pookie. :)

  15. My favorite was last year on my 40th. I did love the gift, a Canon Rebel XT, but it was the thought that my hubby put into the party. He found old friends from highschool that came and lots of family. He even listened when I talked about a certain baker in town and ordered me a special cake from her. I felt the gift of love and that means more than any material gift ever could....
I still like those too though!

  17. I have had many wonderful birthdays and gifts, but the one birthday that jumped to mind was the summer I turned 9 years old. I had been off visiting my Dad (parents were divorced) for a few weeks and when I came back home I discovered that my Mom had redecorated my whole bedroom in my favorite colors of blue and green. There was a new bedspread and sheets, pillows, curtains,a nice throw rug and some stuffed animals. I still think of that sweet gift from time to time and smile. She made me feel so grown up and appreciated with that bedroom "makeover". I actually still have the bed sheets!

  18. When I turned 21, my mother gave me an amethyst ring that her mother (my grandmother) had given to her on her 21st birthday. It wasn't a brand new gift, but the meaning behind it was (and still is) so very special. My mother's birthday is in February and amethyst is the birthstone for that month. My birthday is in March and although the ring is not my birthstone, it doesn't matter; the purple stone is beautiful. My youngest daughter was born in February and when she turns 21 I plan on passing the ring down to her. She's only 8 now, so I have the ring to myself for a few more years. :)

Enjoy your birthday month! I turned 50 this year too.

  20. My birthday is in November as are my Father's my sister's and my brother's. I can't remember a favorite birthday as we didn't celebrate too much--I suppose because they were all at once. LOL
But just reaching another one is celebration enough. If that's good enough for the giveaway--I'm in. MB

  21. My best birthday gift that I will remember for ever was last year. My brother and I lost contact some 7 or 8 yrs ago due to misunderstandings. Mom passed away, my oldest brother passed away and he never knew :(. Last year April we renewed our contact, after those 7 years. He invited me to spend a month in Thailand where he now lives with his partner. We celebrated our birthdays together, his on the 12th of June, mine on the 13th of June. For the 1st time in many many years. It was a wonderful, fun and tear filled month with lot's of talks etc. And that birthday is one I will never forget. Not because of any presents, but just US being together again :)

Hugs from Marian/ Dutchy on MJF.
OH please enter me in your give away, lol.

  22. Hi Sue. Its your old pal from Louisiana. How many years now - 27 or 28? Whatever age Robbie is now because you were about 8 months pregnant if I remember correctly. I do remember that he was born in March, not sure about the year. I couldn't miss out on trying for this. I have had many birthday gifts that I have truly loved, but one of my favorites was what I got for my 40th birthday. My husband took me to the pet store and in the store he handed me a card. I was wondering why he was giving me a card in the middle of the store. Inside it said, "Pick out any bird you would like and a cage, toys, food, etc... and Happy Bird Day." (I love birds). It was one of the best!

My best Birthday gift was when my husband and I were first married, he bought me 4 English Rose Bushes and planted them under our bedroom window :) We have moved since and I sure miss them but I still have the lovely memory of my honey's thoughtfulness :)
