Tasty Tuesday

I know, it's not Tuesday but living on puppy time is like having a baby in the house without the painful birthing, not much gets done while he's awake! But, it's all good! But my TT posts will be a hit and miss as time allows, till the boy gets potty trained! Till then, it's garden time, or the lack of it in my case! The darn weather has been wet and mild, no complaints there, but we've gotten the big garden tilled and weeded 3 times now, only to have a wicked weed take over faster than we can handle, add working on the coop every spare minute and you have a mess! So, I may have to scale back this season and just plant a few things in my raised beds: toms and peppers for sure!!

This got me thinking ahead to homemade ketchup, have you ever tried it? I used to make it when the kids were little and the tom harvest was big but after some google time, I found a easy recipe using store bought tom paste. Keep this one handy, and treat your family to a tasty Tuesday any day of the week!

Homemade Ketchup
12 ounces Tomato Paste
1/2 cup Dark Brown Sugar
1/2 teaspoon Dry Ground Mustard
1/2 teaspoon Kosher Salt
1/2 scant teaspoon Cinnamon
2 pinches of Ground Clove
2 pinches of Allspice
1 pinch of Cayenne Pepper
2/3 cup Water
4 tablespoons White Wine Vinegar
adapted from the Hillbilly Housewife

DIRECTIONS:

Combine all ingredients in a large mixing bowl.
Stir until the sugar is completely dissolved.
Store in an airtight container in the fridge and overnight for the flavors to develop. This ketchup recipe should last for 3 weeks in the fridge.
Use where ever ketchup is called for and enjoy!
