Homemade Butter

This post is a companion to the last one, because if you bake homemade bread, you've got to go the extra mile and make some homemade butter to go with it! Just the other day, I was gifted a block of homemade butter straight from the cow and stand mixer, so I came home and made some bread for a family dinner.  I placed the bright yellow brick of butter ( all natural coloring ) on the table and it was a magnet! Warm bread from the oven, creamy butter melting in, what a treat! The gifter told me I didn't need a cow  to make my own, all I needed was heavy whipping cream, salt to taste and a stand mixer, so now, I can make homemade butter anytime and you can too!

Homemade Butter

2 c. heavy cream
1/4 t. salt
Pour cream in a stand mixer or food processor and blend for 10 min. on med. speed or till the butter separates.  Stain off the liquid, which is buttermilk so save for other baking. Season to taste with salt. Press butter into small bowl or foam brick. Use the back of a spoon to further remove liquid. Process longer if not firm.

There's no more excuses for supplying your family with the best of butters, a little time equals a feast for the taste buds and easy on the tummy too! Enjoy and pass the butter please!

  2. Homemade butter is really devine!! We have husband's grandmother's old daisy churn and when the children were small we would often churn butter in it. So much fun!! Now I tend to use the good old Kitchen Aid when I am wanting fresh butter :)

    Blessings!

I remember shaking a jar with cream in it as a child in school and making butter. Mm... I so love fresh bread. I just may have to make the "real" thing for our holiday meal this year... and it sounds so simple too! Thanks

  8. Sounds so good. I made butter with my Girl Scout troop a couple of years ago. We used little baby food jars and just shook them until it turned into little balls of butter. It took alot of shaking though!

  9. I've never made butter, but have always wanted to. I have my great-grandmother's churn in my dining room.

  12. I also make my own butter but after seperating the butter from the liquid I rinse off the butter, don't know why, it was just how I was tought...
Sometimes I add a smidgeon of salt and other times not, I luv sweet un-salted butter on a crispy Kaiser roll...
I also added a TBLSP of honey into the butter to make honey butter for my cornbread.
Either way, you just can't beat fresh made butter!

  13. If you take your cream out of the refrigerator the night before, my experience has been that it churns up better than when it's cold. I'm glad you had fun making your own butter. We get to do that fairly often here at the SLM and it is always welcomed, especially when we bake.
