We had our first frost over the weekend, then it warmed up, back to normal, amazing! So, I've been outside alot cleaning up flower beds, planting discounted mums and enjoying the sunshine, sure does feel good. It wasn't a hard frost but I did lose some tender annuals but the hardy mums are still blooming strong. Time to put the garden to bed, always a little sad but we always have the winter to plan ahead to spring. Autumn is awake, and smiling.
Our second annual fall fun night is this Saturday night so I'm hoping the weather will hold. We gather friends and family who all bring a covered dish, we eat around a big bon fire, kids play, smores, a hayride at dusk and plenty of fall fellowship. Fun is had by all. I hope you don't let autumn get away without enjoying all it has to offer, just take a look at the masterpiece coming to life outside your window. Autumn is awake, join her!
I love the idea of your family fall fun night! We haven't had a frost just yet, so all my petunias are still blooming, along with my Mexican Heather. I'm going to miss them when they're gone!
ReplyDeleteI think if the planters are still outside next year, I may plant something in them and hope for the best that the drunkards will leave them alone. Right now the city has planted little trees in them, but people are still sitting on them and pushing them out of the way. I totally don't like it, but there's nothing I can do.
ReplyDeleteWe haven't had any frost yet, the temps today were almost up in the 70's again. Guess this is our Indian Summer. I'm waiting for it to turn really cold again, but hoping for no rain this weekend because I have laundry to get done.
Your family fall night sounds dreamy. We used to have a bonfire every year around this time when Sister S lived in a trailer on a farm in Carroll County, MD. My BIL used a cut in half oil drum and kept the fire going all night. The guys even brought sleeping bags and slept on the ground with hot coals from the fire buried in the dirt. They stayed warm all night. We ladies shared the space in the trailer, sleeping on anything that was comfortable for us, with the kids piled on the floor in the living room in their sleeping bags. It was the best times we ever had and I still miss it. But we Sisters talk about it all the time so we still have some great memories to share. xxoo
Yes Fall is here and I am loving it. What great fun the fall fun night sounds.

My Girlfriend Joyce is having an Autumn Bonfire at her house on Friday evening; my friends, the Moore's are having a big, and I mean big, fish fry at their place on Saturday evening.
ReplyDeleteIt should be a very fun weekend.
Blessings to you friend!

Who cannot get internet at her house two miles out of town!!!!!!!!!
We've had some really heavy frosts here and I was just commenting to my husband how I needed to get outside and pull out all the annuals that are now lying in dead piles. Trouble is, I've had a 6 year old with swine flu, so I've had a hard time getting out. Oh, well, I'll get to it eventually.
ReplyDeleteIt's definitely a beautiful time of year, Sue!
ReplyDeleteI would love a light frost, or any frost for that matter!! The coldest we have been is 30 early in the morning. I miss walking on frosty, crunchy ground. Have a super weekend with your family!
