The $1.75 House

Yahoo greeted me this morning with something that caught my eye and instilled hope in the American dream. A lady won a bid on Ebay for a house, her winning bid? A mere $1.75 plus $850 in back taxes and yard clean up costs, but still very affordable! The house is in Saginaw, Wa. so I know it has to be a pretty place, Marybeth if your reading this, you probably know of Saginaw so please let me know! Sure, the place needs alot of TLC and elbow grease but think of the possibilities here? It could be a cozy little homestead or a major flip for profit, but either way, it ensures that even in the darkest of times, the American dream can be had if we seek out every possible way to own a home. I'd rather see a house sell for a few bucks than see it tore down. You can read more about this on Yahoo. Just what I'm thinking about this morning.....

  3. Only women can see the diamond in the ruff. It could be fixed up so cute. Hope she has the means to do so, looks like a lot of work. but worth it.

  6. I saw that! I sure hope it's a good deal for her! Surely the property is worth more than the $1.75 and back taxes.

I'd be interested to learn what she does with it!

  8. Hi there; I hate to be the one to tel y'all; I live in Michigan and that house is here in Saginaw Michigan; I go to Saginaw on a regular basis so I better tell y'all what that is all about; Saginaw may have once been a lovely place and a small area of it still is kind of pretty; but very commercial; you lnow malls and stores; but where that house is is the worst area you can imagine; it is gang infested and drug infested; it is not a place you would want to live; it is run down; the pople who live there have no hope left; many are indigent; The city can't keep up with the crime; some residents have taken to burning down abandoned houses; the crime rate is unreal! They houses are often used by crack addicts to use for crack houses where they can use their drugs; some sell from there too; You would be appalled if you saw the area this house is in; the police don't want to drive through there; they shoot at the police; each night all we hear is another shooting in Saginaw or Flint; I moved here four years ago and lived briefly in Saginaw; the nice part; but even there you have to be aware of your surroundings; Since GM and Delphi really bankrupted these areas people have lost all hope and many moved away; the ones that are trapped there and the criminal element just seem to do whatever they want anymore. There is no pride in that area; and it seems like the leaders talk a good game, but the crime rate is still high ; people have no income or work available. I feel sorry for the kids; last year in the area a BABY was killed because his mother was an idiot driving around at strange hours of the night with him in the backseat and her boyfriend may have annoyed some gang members; or they "thought" he had; and so they shot into the car killing the child; they were apprehended and tried for the crime; all are in prison; but it kills me that this is not the first time in this area that this has happened; the mother was never held for anything; I think the real story is that they were out looking for drugs; dragging that poor kid with them; no one with any sense goes at in the winter at 12 or 1 am in that area unless they are up to something. I was a drug counselor and worked in the worst areas like Saginaw and Gary Ind and can tell you way too much about this! I wish there was something good about that house; the other thing is that woman will ahve to pay to clean it up and pay all taxes; the folks in that neighborhood may well burn it down before she can rehab it and sell it; houses there do not sell fast.
Sorry to put a damper on the wonderful comments; anywhere else that house would be a steal and well worth it; Merrie

  9. OMG, thanks Merrie, I had no idea! Why would Yahoo say it was in a differnt state? I'm shocked! Thanks for sharing your insight. I'm so sad for this house and the lady who bought it, I guess her only hope is to move it?
