Knock, Knock!
I've finally got another must do project out of the way before winter, and this one turned into a mini remodel. Our house is old, and I wouldn't have it any other way, so the door is old too and really took a beating from our beloved Mastiff Louie, who would scratch at the door when he wanted in, so after losing him it was time to restore the poor door. At first I thought I could get away with a can of paint but after further inspection, the whole door surround was rotting from the elements and YEARS of use, so hubby replaced all the wood surrounding the door, and even customized it, I didn't want just 3 boards put back into place the same way, so we added the cross board on top for detail. Next, I thought, why not change the whole look while were at it, since we can't afford a brand new door. After a trip to Lowes, and for us, it's really a trip, just over 100 miles round trip to be exact, I found a package of 12 wanes coating planks for only $10, so we cut to fit the inserts and I painted the whole door black and for less than $30 ( new wood, paint and planks) we have a brand new door!
And since it only took 6 planks, we put the rest on the inside and I'm in the process of painting the other side: black door and the inserts will be the same color as the walls. I'm a firm believer in restoring whenever possible, esp to keep the look of the house. Our home was built in 1947 so I'm happy with the out come and come spring, the siding gets a paint job!
