It's been a very productive weekend, the best kind! Yesterday was so nice, mid 60's, so we got out and cleaned up the yard from the wind storms that lasted most of last week, still missing a lawn chair cushion! We also got the garden tilled, roses pruned and a few cool weather crops in their final resting place, raised beds! It was great being outdoors all day, maintaining the old homestead is pure joy!
Today, on the other hand is totally opposite from yesterday, it's raining non stop so my focus is inside maintenance of sorts! Bedding is fresh, house is clean and I made my first batch of playdoh for the grandkids! It was so much fun, and easy too! I enjoyed it as much as they will, very relaxing and the next batch will have new colors as I experiment with the color wheel!
Isn't it pretty! I'm sharing the recipe, my twist on the one I got from a FB friend so I could make a bigger batch, and it worked out just fine! Kids of all ages will love this stuff and it's a great way to use up any old flour you may have in the cupboards. I used self rising here that I've had for a year now and it worked! I also recommend the jel food coloring for a better turnout! Now, I'm off to bake some muffins rounding out this very productive weekend, rain or shine, there's always something to do, for all ages!
Homemade Playdoh
3 c. flour
3 c. water
1 1/2 c. salt
2 Tb. cream of tartar
3 Tb. oil
Mix all ingredients together in a med. or large pan, heat on med. and stir till it thickens and forms a ball. This took me about 30 min. or so. Turn out and kneed till you get the right consistency, on lightly floured surface. Divide and add food coloring, mix and blend in well. Store in air tight containers, lasts a long time!
Love the colors that you chose...Our kids are on spring break this week and this will be a fun thing to do.

Lucky grandkids. And all the colors they will have. Enjoy the coming of spring
ReplyDeleteThis looks like so much fun! I bookmarked it for when my daughter gets older.. at 16 months this would go straight to her mouth!
ReplyDeleteAnd what lovely play doh too! I wish my son still enjoyed using it, alas he is a big 7 year old now and far too grown-up for such things 'sigh'. Have a great week hon. Becks x
ReplyDeleteSweet and I love the colors. I am going to have to try this. Blessings!
ReplyDeleteI made playdoh years ago. Love the colors that you made! So pretty!
