What to do.....

with this old trunk? One of the boys gave it to me after he found it in a old building, I'm about ready to stick it in my hubby's closet for his hunting gear unless you can help me figure out a better idea for it? Right now, I have it in the library hiding old canning jars but there has to be something I could do or use it for? It's pretty big and clumsy so I'm not sure if I even want it out, any ideas?

  1. I bet it would be pretty refinished with the embossing it has on it!

  2. The hunting gear idea is good. That`s probably what I would do. Lots of people like them for home decor. The rule in my house is if it has to be dusted it goes in a closet or it is covered by a small pretty quilt.

  5. Oh, I have one like that, we lined the inside with cedar paneling stripes and I use it for my sweaters. It is great. I have it at the end of my bed and so I put my quilt on it during the night when we sleep and I take the quilt off and put the comforter on. I don't let anyone sit on it, tho. Good luck finding a place for it, I do love mine, tho!

  6. It's too pretty to hide away. I'd dust it really well and give it a coat of Scott's Liquid Gold polish to bring out those beautiful decorations. xxoo

  8. It looks alot like the one I have in my living room that belonged to my grandmother...mine is a matte gold color...I spray painted it another color after I got it when I was in my teens and then went back to the gold color that it was...I have my young life in it...School annuals, love letters, corsages dried, tokens from boys,etc...My daughter loves going through it and getting to know "her mom" as I was her age now...I would never part with it!!...I received a lovely gift from my grandmother and someday will give it to my daughter to add "her life" to it...I need to find one for my son when he gets older...Jen

  9. Hey Sue; What a great trunk. I have one like that, it was redone inside and out. On the inside they put padding and beautiful floral fabric, I have it at the end of the guest room bed, I put my extra sheet sets in it and pillows works and looks great. I hope you find a use for.

    Have a great week.

    Hugs;

  10. That is beautiful. My in-laws had one and kept it open by the door for the kids jackets, mitttens and hats. But, they had to prop it open so it wouldn't end up falling on the kids and hurt them the lid was so heavy.

  11. Oh my gosh!! When I first read your post I read it as "I'm about to stick my hubby in it"!! LOL Glad that's not what you're thinking about!

  12. That's funny Denise, he wouldn't fit! I'll probably stick it in the closet for now, let hubby store his hunting gear in it, like my sister said, it's kinda ugly, if I had the room to have it in our bedroom I'd use it for storing blankets or sweaters but there just isn't. So, in the closet it goes for now. Thanks for the tips and I was surprised to see so many had one familar to mine.

  13. I have one a lot like it, too. It is at the foot of our bed and our daughter's dolls are all stored in it.

  14. Hi, I came over from Harbor Hon. I would keep it, I love old trunks. You could store a lot in there.

  16. you can actually find replacement parts/hinges for them... I think I'd redo it to it's original look..I like the suggestion of the liquid gold to bring out the embossed detail. I bet if it was redone you'd be able to find a place for it other than the closet.

  17. What a lovely find! I would leave it just like it is ... wouldn't it look lovely at the end of the bed with rag dolls and a quilt draped on it.

    Smiles,
    Lea

    Dear Sue,

I have an old trunk and I keep old photographs and familiy treasures in it. Examples: my sons' report cards, school pictures, etc.
