Home Sick.....
The leaves have peeked and most have fallen, but we got out yesterday after lunch and took to the back roads in hopes of finding the Cotter Place, a once thriving homestead. We found it, all weathered and abused, I was home sick! The door was open, so of course I peeked inside, I was surprised to find small rooms and a very small kitchen, kinda sad too, especially if this once was a working homestead with ranch hands to feed? My wonder was quickly replaced with regret, I should of stayed outside and just imagined the house in all it's glory. It sits empty and run down but with a new roof, so I'm hopeful someone will restore it or at least lock it up and keep it safe from the elements of weather and mankind. But, I did come away with a token shot of a home that no longer houses a family but memories of kinder days and cow bells that still ring from the pasture. I did some editing and I'm in love with this result, which will be entered in the county fair next summer and will grace my wall, hung with care to honor this home that was once oh so sweet!

charming photo. I really like it!
ReplyDeleteLove this picture, Sue...it always saddens me to see an abandoned home...I always wonder what story is behind it's walls...
ReplyDeleteIt is very sad to see an old house kinda like it was thrown away. I do love your picture though.
ReplyDeleteIsn;t that porch wonderful, both upstairs and downstairs.
as they say "if only the house could talk. Oh the stories it would tell." We will just use our imagination. Right?
Keep in touch, MB
I love this house! What town is it near and is the place for sale, I wonder?
ReplyDeleteThis old place is not for sale, it was trashed inside so I'm guessing it was a rental, but the pasture still keeps cows. It's out in a rural area near my town of West Plains, Mo.
ReplyDeleteI can't remember how I stumbled upon your blog, I was just following links from here to there, and found yours and am so glad I did. What a cool picture, just trying to imagine that house in it's glory days, those porches would have been wonderful to enjoy!
ReplyDeleteLove old houses like this.
ReplyDeleteGreat photo!!
I shared your lovely photo from Pinterest and linked to your blog post. I didn't think you'd mind. If you do, please let me know. I'll remove it. It was just too good not to share just like your blog!

Home sweet home.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing her with me tonight Sue!
What beautiful stories she must hold in her walls.
Such a beautiful picture. So sad that no one is creating new memories in that home. It would be such a fun project to bring love and life back into that house.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Amy
