Tasty Tuesday

I'm doing good, I  remembered today was Tuesday and not Monday! And you'll be doing even better if you try this recipe that I made for our family cookout yesterday. I had my doubts, and you will too when you read over the recipe, but trust me, it really does work! It's a chocolate wonder!

Chocolate Cobbler

3/4 c. sugar
1 c. self rising flour
2 T. cocoa
1/2 c. milk
3 T. melted butter
1 t. vanilla
Mix the above ingredients together and spread into a greased 9x13 glass baking dish.
Topping:
1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. brown sugar
1/4 c. cocoa
Mix together and sprinkle on to of above mixture. Next pour 1 1/2 c. hot water gently over all, DO NOT mix in, just pour over. Bake at 350 for 40 min. Serve hot with ice cream or cold anytime!

Ice cream makes this dessert heavenly, if that's possible! But next time I make this, I think I will use coffee instead of the water, for a extra kick! I had to get creative yesterday, I was out of brown sugar, so I made some! It was so easy, and I will never go back to store bought!  Here's the recipe for that.

Homemade Brown Sugar
1 c. sugar
1/4 c. molasses
Beat with electric mixer till well blended, store in air tight container.

Then, I had no self rising flour in the cupboards, determined to make this cobbler, I made some self rising flour, and again, why buy a separate bag when you can make what you need when you need it. Recipe follows.

Homemade Self Rising flour
1 c. all purpose flour
1 1/4 t. baking powder
1/2 t. salt
Blend well and use or store.

I felt pretty thrifty yesterday, not much labor involved and I cut out 2 staples off the pantry list! Have you priced flour lately? Yikes!
Were back to summer conditions for a few days before it cools down, so no baking for me, but I can work and add to my baking list for the upcoming baking season! I must thank this site for this recipe this week, thank you!
