Tasty Tuesday

I'm sharing another tasty recipe from Trisha Yearwood's show this week because I made her famous "crack" for the grandkids last week and when she said they call it crack because it's addicting, she wasn't lying!! It's heavenly! But a nicer name is sweet and saltines, pairing a sweet treat with a salty craving makes a perfect, anytime snack, plus it's easy too! Her food network show is in reruns already, boo hoo, but she's shared many yummy recipes to try and that's what I'm doing till the show returns! :)

Sweet & Saltines ( aka "crack" )

  • Cooking spray
  • 35 to 40 saltine crackers
  • 2 sticks (1 cup) butter
  • 1 cup light brown sugar
  • 8 ounces semisweet chocolate chips (about 1 1/3 cups)

Directions

Preheat the oven to 425 degrees F.
Line 1 large or 2 small jelly-roll pans with aluminum foil, spray with nonstick spray and arrange the saltines in a single layer. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter and brown sugar together and boil for about 5 minutes. Remove from the heat and pour over the crackers, covering them evenly.
Put the jelly-roll pan into the oven and bake for 2 to 4 minutes, or until just bubbly, watching carefully. Remove from the oven and pour the chocolate chips over the crackers. When the chips melt a bit, spread them over the crackers with a knife.
Transfer the pan to the freezer for 15 to 20 minutes, or until completely cold. They will form one big sheet. Break up into pieces. Store in an airtight container.

  2. That chocolate thing... too addicting at our house for just the two of us. Sounds delicious though, maybe when the grands come I will try it. I did make the orange marmalade you shared a couple of weeks ago... all I can say is DELICIOUS!!!

  5. This is the best stuff in the world. I try not to make it too much because I can't leave it alone when it is in the house.
